Massage Therapy in British Columbia

Your British Columbia RMT has completed a diploma in massage therapy at an accredited post secondary institution with clinical practice hours and challenging academia. To qualify for registration in BC, your therapist passed 4 examinations (practical, academic, ethical), is governed by and accountable to a regulatory body (College of Massage Therapists of BC), commits to quality assurance and obtains continuing education credits annually, holds standing criminal record checks and emergency first aid certification, is professionally insured, and is a federally regulated healthcare professional.

Is massage therapy painful?

Massage does not have to be painful to be effective. There are some techniques that can be uncomfortable, but your therapist will discuss this with you and ask that you let them know if you would like to change anything about your treatment at any point. You always have the right to change your pre-discussed treatment plan.

Are there side effects?

While negative side effects are not common, it is possible to experience some tenderness in the area treated and should only last a day or two. Some patients have also reported feeling slightly nauseous after a treatment. Your therapist will discuss with you what side effects vs. benefits you are most likely to experience given your treatment plan and you will work together to find the perfect balance for you.

Massage therapy has an amount of coverage through most extended medical plans. Our clinic proudly offers courtesy direct billing to most major carriers. Before arriving at your appointment please take time to call your provider to understand what to expect from your plan.

Currently, there are no RMT’s at Lagoon Prenatal that offer direct billing for active ICBC claims.

We will, however, be happy to work with your attorney on your claim.
